‘He cares about the club’ – Jamie Redknapp defends Manchester United captain against unfair criticism

Jamie Redknapp argues Bruno Fernandes is one of a few Manchester United players that genuinely cares about the club.

Manchester United dropped more points away from home after a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

The Reds travelled to the Vitality Stadium looking to bounce back to winning ways, but after failing to achieve that we find ourselves on a poor run of one league win in seven for United.

Bruno Fernandes scored two equalisers against the Cherries as United battled to take a point from the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Redknapp praised Fernandes after his brace against Bournemouth: “He cares about the club”

Redknapp says the criticism of Fernandes is unfair.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Ten Hag added (as per ManUtd.com): “He [Fernandes] scored twice. He’s very creative. It’s true. It gives us a lot of energy to the team. So he’s acting as a captain, so he brings energy in the team. And we are very pleased with this.”

Fernandes is a scapegoat

Fernandes hasn’t had the best of seasons after being named club captain, but he is still the first player you be guarantee will run himself into the ground for his teammates.

It’s a shame others don’t follow suit because we would be in a better position if they took his example.

Hopefully, Fernandes is the one lifting the FA Cup in May. That would silence a few critics until they come back out of the woodwork next season.
