Manchester United’s hopes of sealing a Champions League place are all but gone after a late equaliser from Brentford on Saturday evening denied the Reds all three points.

It looked like United had stolen all three points at the death when Mason Mount scored in the 96th minute but just minutes later, the hosts ensured the points would be shared.

Andre Onana, who has been one of United’s best players in the last three months, was at his best once more at the Gtech Community Stadium and he was picked out for special praise by manager Erik ten Hag after the game.

Ten Hag has stood behind Onana throughout the goalkeeper’s maiden campaign at Old Trafford and that is now paying off, with the Dutchman hailing the Onana as ‘fantastic’ after the game.

“I thought we were good in certain situations and when we were winning, we didn’t deserve it, but we should take the winning and do so more often,” Ten Hag told the official Manchester United website.

“We were fighting and we created some great chances and Andre Onana was fantastic tonight. Rasmus Hojlund had a great chance. When you make the winning goal that is when you must bring it over the line. I am very pleased for Mason [Mount] but I also feel sorry for him as it should have been the winner.”

Onana has spoken about the difficulties he had adapting to the Premier League and you can clearly see the difference compared to his first couple of months.

United are one of the sides in the Premier League that is facing the most shots per game, meaning Onana will be forced into action more often than he, and the manager, would have liked.

Thus far, Onana has thrived despite being exposed by a malfunctioning system in front of him. He has come to his side’s rescue a number of times over the last two months but it’s not sustainable.
