Rashford 4, Garnacho 4: player ratings from Brentford 1-1 Manchester United

Manchester United were dealt a cruel blow to their Champions League hopes on Saturday evening as a dramatic end to the game meant that Tottenham Hotspur have moved eight points clear of the Reds in fifth.

Brentford were the superior side for the entirety of the game but it looked like United had stolen all three points at the death when Mason Mount scored his first goal for the club.

Instead, just minutes later and as the travelling United support was still celebrating what looked to be the winner, Brentford went up the other end to equalise.

The result has dented United’s hopes of making it to the Champions League and now, it does truly look like a far too big of an ask.

Man United Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 8
The only player that actually performed. Quite a turnaround from him if you look at the whole season.

Diogo Dalot – 5
Didn’t reach his usual levels.

Raphael Varane – 6
Thought he did well in the first half but was taken off. Still waiting to see if that was due to injury or tactical.

Victor Lindelof – 4
Came off with what looked like a hamstring injury. Struggled before that.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4
Does better at left-back than many would have predicted. This was, however, not his evening.

Scott McTominay – 4
Tough day at the office.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6
There was a tiny hint of fatigue in that performance but still managed to look like the best outfielder on the pitch.

Bruno Fernandes – 5
United usually produce these performances when their greatest attacking asset isn’t performing.

Alejandro Garnacho – 4
A poor outing from the winger.

Marcus Rashford – 4
Disappointing. Decision-making in the final third is very flawed.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5
Not the return he would have hoped for. Six-game goalscoring streak comes to an end.

  1. Not dealt cruel blow: not good enough.
    Again and again and again.
Brentford easily could have won 5-1, United players again couldn’t be bothered to turn up.
    Again and again and again.
Who’s not good enough: players? Manager? Both?
It needs to change, and with Sir Jim in place, it will.
    Disgrace to the shirt.

  2. Can’t keep making excuses, Brentford were, like may before them, the better team.
United are easy to play against, they give the ball away far to easily, don’t fight to get it back , leave gaping holes in the middle for teams to play right through them , no width , every week the opposition goes wide when attacking and get loads of space as our fullbacks tuck into the box.
Either the tactics set by the coaches don’t work , or the players simply ignore them.
When did we last see Rashford run back , and make a meaningful challenge 🤔, if he gets picked for the Euros it is a travesty for others who give 100% every week and get left out .

  3. Despite the performance, the game was won. Then AWB totally switched off after Mount’s goal. If he’d moved up with the rest of the Utd back line Toney would’ve been caught offside. His teammates ran, he barely jogged. Toney is left inside when he receives the ball. That was really poor.
