INEOS undecided about Erik ten Hag’s future amid Gareth Southgate admiration

Manchester United have not yet made a decision over Erik ten Hag’s future as the club as INEOS continue their widespread overhaul of the club since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover.

Ratcliffe secured a 25% stake in Manchester United earlier this year and as part of the deal, the multi-billionaire has complete control of the club’s footballing operations.

One of the main question marks since his introduction has been the future of the manager, with some reports suggesting that Ten Hag is far from certain to remain at the club beyond this summer.

Now, it is being claimed in a new report that INEOS have not yet decided what to do with Ten Hag amid their admiration for England manager Gareth Southgate.

That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who say that Southgate is among the names that could take over the club if Ten Hag is replaced.

As per the report, Ratcliffe has been impressed with Southgate since he took the England job in 2016 and the former Middlesbrough manager has ties with Sir Dave Brailsford and soon-to-be sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that discussions over potential managerial targets have been held this summer by INEOS, with Southgate’s name popping up frequently.

Southgate is under contract with The FA for the remainder of the year and in any case of a move to United, he would not take over until after this summer’s European Championship at the earliest.

The final takes place on July 14 and should England go all the way, United’s pre-season campaign will be well underway already with no manager.
