The Football Association issued a public statement amid reports of ‘tragedy chanting’ during Manchester United’s 4-3 win over Liverpool on Sunday.
Some chants were heard at the game which sparked a response from the FA, who are working with Greater Manchester Police following the incident.
They also condemn any offensive, abusive and discriminatory chants at stadiums – and it honestly feel that whenever United take on Liverpool, the police have statements to issue on songs aired on the terraces.
A statement from the FA said via X: “We are aware of the reported tragedy chanting during today’s FA Cup fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool, and we will be liaising with and supporting Greater Manchester Police.
“We strongly condemn any offensive, abusive and discriminatory chants in football stadiums, and we are determined to stamp this behaviour out.
“It is entirely unacceptable and can have a lasting and damaging impact on people and communities within our game. It must stop, and we support any club and their fans who try to eradicate this from the terraces.”

This has been going on for years and it is not something I can see stopping anytime soon. Whether the game was played at Old Trafford or Anfield on Sunday, tragedy chanting would have been heard.
