Manchester United move to sign France international could be blocked

Manchester United’s efforts to sign a centre-back this season could have sustained a real hit, as fresh reports emerge surrounding the club’s interest in OGC Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo.

It is likely that United will make an effort to strengthen that area this summer, with several players having uncertain futures.

Harry Maguire will have just one year remaining on his contract at the end of this season, Victor Lindelof is far from certain to remain beyond the summer and Jonny Evans is out of contract.

There are also question marks over Raphael Varane’s future at the club, leaving Lisandro Martinez as the only player that is certain to stay.

Todibo, a readied international with France, has impressed since joining Sir Jim Ratcliffe-owned Nice but now, it is reported that United may face a stumbling block.

As per Football Insider, the French club could now block any efforts made by United to sign Todibo. It’s claimed that should they qualify for Europe this season, they will look to keep Todibo as opposed to cashing out.

Nice are currently sixth in their division but are still likely to play in Europe in some capacity next season, with a Champions League finish also possible.

It’s reported that Todibo is one of the names on United’s three-man shortlist of centre-back targets, with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite also a target.
