Sought-after United star ‘might as well pack his bags’ if ‘Ten Hag is backed’ this summer, says journalist

Samuel Luckhurst appears to have suggested that Amad Diallo has no future at Manchester United should Erik ten Hag remain in the dugout long-term.

In fairness, you can’t really blame anyone for coming to that conclusion judging by what we’ve seen this season.

Amad was sidelined for the first half of the 2023/2024 campaign due to a knee injury that he sustained on last summer’s tour, leaving him unable to immediately build on his scintillating Sunderland loan spell. Throughout his time on Wearside, he scored 14 goals – including one in the playoff semi-finals – and notched four assists.

His first United outing of the term came back on December 30 when the Reds fell to a 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Amad replaced Antony early in the second half to make a 36-minute cameo but, like the rest of his attacking teammates, was unable to produce a moment of magic to claim any points from the clash.

The 21-year-old has featured only twice this calendar year, both of which were off-the-bench appearances, and for just 27 minutes in total against Fulham and Forest (FA Cup) respectively.

Luckhurst on Amad’s future

When giving his verdict on which members of the squad could depart Old Trafford this summer, Luckhurst said of Amad: “The winger has been restricted to three substitute appearances since he recovered from a knee injury in late December. If Ten Hag is backed, then Amad might as well pack his bags.”

In the January window, it was reported that the attacker was garnering interest from Sunderland again, as well as Middlesbrough and Leeds United.
