John Squire and Liam Gallagher to make derby day tram announcements

The 192nd Manchester derby takes place at the Eithad Stadium this afternoon, with Mancunian duo Liam Gallagher and John Squire facing off on the city’s trams.

Derby day in Manchester presents all sorts of cross-city rivalries, but this Sunday there will be something different on the Metrolink.

That’s because Manchester United fan John Squire and Man City mouthpiece Liam Gallagher are doing tannoy announcements on trams ahead of kick-off.

With the Mancunian duo recently releasing a self-titled collaborative album, they intend are to gain publicity from football in order to sell more music.

It is, in some ways, a marriage made in heaven. You’ve got the most recognisable frontmen of his generation making music with a legendary guitarist and together they are trying to achieve some sort of Oasis-Stone Roses supergroup.

Passengers will hear the announcements on services going via Manchester city centre tram stop and the Ashton line from midday on Sunday.

Furthermore, the Bee Network is offering exclusive prizes this weekend linked to the pair’s new album, with adverts containing more information at stations and trams.

Hopefully it will be Squire smiling at full-time rather than Gallagher.
