Former player calls Man United star ‘best in the league’ in his position

One of his former teammates has been dubbed “the best in the Premier League” by former Manchester United left-back Alex Telles.

In the summer of 2020, Telles joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United, although he struggled to get consistent first team playing time at Old Trafford.

His set piece abilities and offensive prowess were well-known at his former club, Porto. Although he only contributed six assists in his two seasons at United, fans may have expected more.

Telles left for Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr in the summer after spending the previous season on loan with Sevilla. Erik ten Hag gave Telles permission to look for a new club.

After reflecting back on his time in the Premier League, the Brazil international—who played for his nation at the 2022 World Cup—shared his thoughts on who, in his position, is now the finest player in the league.

He told Portuguese outlet Sapo Desporto: “It [joining United] was a mixture of adaptation, and they also have a great player in Luke Shaw – the best left-back in the Premier League.

“In my first year, we shared the games and the place in the starting XI.

“We got on really well, he’s a friend of mine. He’s got a lot of quality.

“Under those circumstances, with him having been at the club for a long time, I managed to play 25 games a season. And 50 games at a club like United is good. It was very good for my career.”

Shaw has been unlucky with injuries this season. The England international has only played 12 Premier League games for the Red Devils.

His latest hamstring injury has ruled him out for the rest of the season. However, he has been an important member of Ten Hag’s team when fit and has also put in strong performances under Solskjaer.

After joining from Southampton in 2014, Shaw has spent nearly ten years at Old Trafford.
