(Photo) Erik ten Hag calls up 17 y/o academy striker to first team training

Manchester United academy star Gabriele Biancheri has been spotted training with the first-team.

The 17-year-old, who joined United from Cardiff in January 2023, has quickly established himself as one to watch in the academy.

Biancheri has scored five goals in 14 appearances for the U18s and his inclusion in Erik ten Hag’s training squad comes at a time as United try to cope with a striker shortage following Rasmus Hojlund’s recent injury blow.

Hojlund will miss the Manchester derby and it remains to be seen if Marcus Rashford will be the one tasked with leading the line on Sunday.

It remains to be seen if Biancheri will make any matchday squads this season, but I wouldn’t rule it out when you consider the amount of injuries we’ve had to deal with…

The Manchester derby on Sunday may come too soon, though.

The Wales U17 international was promoted to play for Cardiff U21s at the age of 16, and it didn’t take United long to spot Biancheri after that point. It was reported at the time that United had to fend off interest from an array of clubs including Barcelona and Chelsea.

Only time will tell if Biancheri will be handed a first team debut under Ten Hag this season.
