Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
It was one of the most important moments in Man United’s modern day history as arguably the greatest manager of all time decided to retire.
Man United had just won the league title, beating arch rivals Manchester City and Ferguson thought it was the perfect time to say goodbye to the game.
During his time at the club, Ferguson managed some of the greats of the game in Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane and many others.
He achieved great success with all of them but there is one player who may have felt a bit hung out to dry.
Just a year before, Robin van Persie came to United with the hopes of becoming a part of a winning machine and playing for one of the greatest managers in history. But a year later, he was being made to play in a struggling David Moyes team.
“I’d kind of forgotten that he had a meeting in the dressing room with the lads. He apologised to Robin van Persie for signing him and making him feel like he was going to be there. I do remember that, but I don’t remember too many other details about it,” Evans said.
Van Persie had every right to be irritated since, when he signed with United, he could have been sold a little fantasy that never materialised.
He won the Premier League title but he could have won so much more under Ferguson and achieved great success on an individual level as well.
