Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United will be looking to sign a young left-back this summer.
It’ll likely come as no surprise to supporters given that currently, Erik ten Hag has been left with no senior options in the position following another injury to Luke Shaw; he will be out for an extended period with a muscle complaint and may have played his last game of the season.
Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia is yet to feature for the club this term after sustaining an injury on the final day of 2022/2023 Premier League campaign. Last December, United confirmed that the Dutch international had suffered a setback in his rehabilitation, and his expected return date is unknown.
United left ruing January decisions
Youngster Alvaro Fernandez, who could’ve been utilised now on the left flank, was sent on loan to Benfica in January and Sergio Reguilon’s temporary deal was cut short the same month, leaving Victor Lindelof to be deployed out of position in the players’ absences.
Whether United will sanction the exits of either Shaw or Malacia to make space for a new arrival at the end of the season remains to be seen.
