Ian Wright waxes lyrical over ‘monster’ centre-back linked with Manchester United

Manchester United have a number of areas to improve in the summer transfer window.

Fans are already being told to expect a number of player sales. That is how Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos Sports group plan to get around any Financial Fair Play obstacles that have restricted the club from doing more deals in the past.

One player being strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford is Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The 21-year-old has become a key player for Everton this season and they will be even more likely to lose him in the summer if they drop to the Championship.

Back in January, the Daily Mail claimed that United had sent scouts to watch Branthwaite in action.

Branthwaite’s performances have gained many plaudits this season and now former Arsenal star turned pundit, Ian Wright, has labelled him ‘a monster’ destined to make it as an England international.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, Wright said: “I believe now he will be in the next England squad. He has got everything.

“You watch how he plays, left sided as well, he plays out well. Very brave. And then when you listen to his interview he sounds like somebody who is like yeah, I’m there, I’m here. He should be called up. And not only that, he should be played.

“Let’s have a look at him. I’m telling you we have a monster on our hands at left-sided centre-half. A monster.”

United are linked with other defenders as well as Branthwaite. Earlier today it was suggested that the club sent scouts to keep an eye on Benfica’s Antonio Silva on Sunday.
