‘He is able to play better’ – Borussia Dortmund boss demands more from Jadon Sancho

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has not pulled up any trees since joining Borussia Dortmund on loan in January.

Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic insists Sancho is aware that there are high expectations on him to perform at a high level after an underwhelming performance in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Sancho, who was making his first Champions League appearance of the season, saw his night end after 68 minutes when he was replaced by Marius Wolf.

The 23-year-old had a nightmare as he lost possession on 12 different occasions, while failing to register a single shot or create any chances.

“With Jadon it is always good to have him around, inside the team, inside the group and also inside the squad on a matchday, because Jadon is capable of making special things happen,” Terzic told TNT Sports on Tuesday night, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“He didn’t have his best performance today, like us all, and he knows that he is able to play better football than today.

“This is what we are going to work on, to get him back on this level every three days when needed. But he is full of joy and we are really happy and pleased that he is around.”

Since returning to Germany, Sancho has registered just two assists in six matches across all competition. It doesn’t look like the ‘homecoming’ they had planned for after all.

There will be some who believe Sancho needs more time to reach match sharpness after several months without playing.
