Tom Huddlestone scores winner in U21s Manchester derby

Former England international Tom Huddlestone scored the winning goal for Manchester United U21s in a 2-1 Manchester derby win over Man City.

The young Reds managed to hang on with 10 men to claim a 2-1 victory over their local rivals.

United  took the lead after 35 minutes through Ethan Wheatley following a pass from Ethan Williams out wide.

Travis Binnion’s side made it 2-1 just nine minutes into the second when experienced midfielder Tom Huddlestone was picked out by a corner. The 37-year-old made no mistake from the edge of the box.

United faced pressure late on.

Stephen Mfuni pulled a goal back for City with 30 minutes left on the clock to make it 2-1.

To make matters more challenging for Binnion’s side, Sam Mather was sent off for an off-the-ball incident and they had to grind out the result in the dying minutes.

Huddlestone joined United in 2022 in a hybrid role for the youth teams to create various unique development opportunities for United’s Academy players by coaching from within training sessions and driving standards on and off the pitch.

As a result, Huddlestone is eligible to represent United in Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy competitions.

I’m sure his ‘team-mates’ appreciated his match winner last night!
