Dan Ashworth could target £60m former Chelsea player for Manchester United

If Dan Ashworth is named Manchester United’s sporting director before the summer, it could severely undermine Chelsea’s recruitment plans.

According to The Telegraph, Ashworth may now rekindle his interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi at Old Trafford. Ashworth intended to bring Guehi to Newcastle United.

But Ashworth’s transfer to the Red Devils as sporting director is still pending agreement between United and Newcastle.

Guehi is rumoured to be on Chelsea’s transfer shortlist. The 23-year-old, who was first sold to Palace in 2021, is reportedly a possibility for the Blues, according to a report by Football.london last month.

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool may try to sign Guehi in the summer in addition to United. Unlike Chelsea, the Reds are probably going to be in the Champions League, which might offer them an advantage over their Premier League opponents.

With three big Premier League clubs interested in signing him, the race for his signature could get interesting. Guehi is worth £60 million to the Eagles, according to TEAMtalk.

Guehi could be on Chelsea’s wish list, but it doesn’t mean they’ll really make a move for him.

According to reports, Ousmane Diomande of Sporting Lisbon is the team’s main defensive target heading into the summer transfer window.

United are looking to sign a new defender in the summer and Guehi, who has plenty of Premier League experience, could prove to be a valuable signing for the club.

With some defenders facing uncertain futures at the club, a player like Guehi could add huge value to the squad.
