Gabriel Agbonlahor thinks Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has recently proved a lot of people wrong with his performance for the club.

Under Erik ten Hag, Harry Maguire is still a squad player, but this season has shown him to be a reliable option for the club, whether from the bench or through starting games.

The 30-year-old’s decision to battle for his spot under Ten Hag and stay at Old Trafford shocked a lot of people in the summer. West Ham had expressed interest in Maguire, who would have probably played more frequently at the London Stadium.

With persistent injury issues at centre-back for United, Maguire has stepped up, and the Englishman has managed 11 starts in the Premier League this season.

Agbonlahor praised Maguire for choosing to stay at United and fight for his position while speaking on talkSPORT.

“I’m not going to go to West Ham because people are telling me to,” Agbonlahor said. “I back myself to get back into that Manchester United team and start putting in top performances again.

“So, credit to Harry Maguire. Credit to his mental health as well, his mind frame of saying you know what? I’m not going to listen to those guys who bully me on social media.

“I’m going to fight for my place, put in top performances and look at him now. He’s proved a lot of people wrong.”

He was named Player of the Match for United’s most recent win at Villa Park, a match which the Red Devils won 2-1, thanks to a late winner from Scott McTominay.

After a run in the team, Maguire won Premier League’s Player of the Month award in November for his brilliant performances.

A player who looked like leaving the club, had the fans against him has not turnaround his United career and won over people at the club, the supporters and the media.
