Sarina Weigman has announced the Lioness squad for two friendly fixtures against Austria and Italy.
England’s women’s national team go into 2024 looking to put their disappointing end to 2023 behind them, with the Lionesses falling short of reaching the UEFA Women’s Nations League finals.
As a result they missed out on qualifying for the Olympic Games, which take place in December.
There will be no major tournament in 2024 for the Lionesses.
The biggest news from Weigman’s recent squad selection was the omission of United’s Nikita Parris.
When asked about that, Weigman told reporters (via National World): “The competition up front is really high. I’ve made some other decisions for this camp, but I hope she can keep some consistency because we’re thinking about her again.
“I had a brief conversation with her yesterday, she understands. We’re in a luxury position with our options in forward positions. She knows we’re watching her very closely.”
Meanwhile, United have four other players involved to be keeping an eye on during the upcoming international break. Mary Earps, Maya Le Tissier, Grace Clinton (on loan at Tottenham) and Ella Toone have all been selected for the games against Austria and Italy.
England squad:
- Goalkeepers: Mary Earps, Hannah Hampton, Khiara Keating
- Defenders: Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Alex Greenwood, Maya Le Tissier, Esme Morgan, Leah Williamson, Lotte Wubben-Moy
- Midfielders: Grace Clinton, Fran Kirby, Jess Park, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Kiera Walsh
- Forwards: Rachel Daly, Lauren Hemp, Lauren James, Chloe Kelly, Beth Mead, Alessia Russo
