Manchester United are gearing up for their first-ever trip to Kenilworth Road in the Premier League era this Sunday.

The Red Devils have exactly seven days to recharge from last weekend’s triumphant win over Aston Villa and prepare themselves for what’s expected to be a physical, gritty battle with Luton Town.

It was Scott McTominay who provided the goods yet again when he came in clutch with a crucial 86th-minute winner to take all three points against Aston Villa away from home, closing the gap on the fifth-placed side to just five points – and six away from the top four.

No player in the division has scored more goals off-the-bench than McTominay (four), and he is also United’s top ‘scorer in the league with a remarkable seven to his name.

Post-match at Villa Park, Erik ten Hag heaped praise on his trusty Scot and hinted that it may be time for him to return to the starting 11.

“He is [a super sub], but he can also start,” the manager said of McTominay on Match of the Day 2.

“You have to credit a player like Scott. He is an example for many players these days. There are not many players any more who are ready for every minute they can be on the pitch. Today we have seen another example. He is always ready to come on and make a difference.”

Should he be named on the teamsheet, it remains to be seen whom the Scotland international would slot in for, however, Ten Hag has previously proclaimed the importance of managing Kobbie Mainoo’s minutes given that he’s just 18 years old and still adapting to first-team action.
