Mason Greenwood linked with new potential suitors as Champions League club register their interest

It’s currently unknown where Mason Greenwood’s future lies beyond the end of his Getafe loan, but numerous clubs continue to be linked with him each week as we take on the second half of the campaign.

The Manchester United academy graduate’s career derailed enormously after he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm by the Crown Prosecution Service in January 2022.

When said charges were dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew from the investigation and new material came to light, United decided that, given the nature of the situation, it would be best for him to return to action away from Old Trafford. The attacker was subsequently sent to Getafe, who were one of the only clubs willing to deal with the backlash and take him on at the time.

Greenwood’s Coliseum spell

Greenwood, 22, has since notched seven goals and four assists across 22 appearances in all competitions, leading to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid sounding out a potential move for him this summer.

As per The Telegraph, Diego Simeone’s side have added the Englishman to their striker shortlist, though it remains to be seen what kind of fee United would demand given that his contract runs until 2025 – with the option of a further year.
