Rasmus Hojlund had his fair share of critics when it took him 15 Premier League games to open his goalscoring account, but he’s certainly receiving his plaudits now that he’s in prolific form.

The Manchester United forward is on a remarkable run of four goals in four consecutive league matches, making him the youngest-ever Red to do so.

When he opened the scoring at the Molineux last Thursday, he also became the youngest player to score and assist in back-to-back matches for the club – an impressive feat that was previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Having just turned 21 years old, Hojlund could well lead the line at Old Trafford for years to come, especially if his development continues on the upward trajectory it’s on. Supporters are already incredibly optimistic about what else he can contribute to the attack the more he refines his game and transitions to England’s top division.

Antonio reserves special praise for Hojlund

West Ham United’s Michail Antonio, who is already well accustomed to life in the top flight, gave his verdict on Hojlund on last night’s Monday Night Football panel with Sky Sports.

“I liked what I saw at the beginning of the season,” he said of the young Dane. “People only rate strikers on scoring goals but it’s not just about that, it’s what you bring to the team as well. He brings that physicality, he can get other people involved, a willing runner and now he’s scoring the goals.

“The goal he scored yesterday [Sunday] was quality. The fake shot to drag it to his right foot – a great strike through the ball. I really rate him. The one thing for a striker is people will always look at you to score goals and there will be a time when you’re without a goal. But as long as you believe in yourself and you know you’ll get another opportunity and take it, then you’ll go on a run.”

“That’s the most important thing, being able to control yourself and believe you’re good enough to do it. He wouldn’t be in this situation now where he’s at United if he couldn’t score goals,” Antonio added.
