‘United really need him’: MUTV pundit lauds returning stalwart who was ‘outstanding’ vs West Ham

The standout performers of Manchester United’s win over West Ham United were of course Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund, but there are several Reds’ performances that are slipping under the radar.

Casemiro is one of a host of returning players after he spent three months out of action with a hamstring complaint, which came immediately after he had just recovered from an ankle injury. Talk about bad luck.

Alas, the 31-year-old has now been deemed fit enough to feature from the start and was named in Erik ten Hag’s starting 11 for the past three matches in all competitions. He was an integral cog at the heart of the manager’s project in his maiden season at Old Trafford, so it’s no wonder why the side struggled as much as they did in his absence.

Now on the back of three successive wins, it’s evident that Ten Hag is relishing the opportunity to finally be able to field his strongest line-up – and Casemiro is a mainstay in that.

Reacting to United’s victory against the Irons on Sunday, MUTV pundit Sammy McIlroy singled out the midfielder for high praise, saying: “I thought he was outstanding today. He broke up play, he set United off on attacks, United really need him.”
