Dimitar Berbatov has advised his former club Manchester United on how to handle Marcus Rashford’s disciplinary issue.
The forward misses United’s trip for their FA Cup tie with Newport County last weekend.
Rashford missed training after a heavy night out in Belfast and was rightly dropped from the matchsquad as a result. Now, we all just want to see Rashford get back to his best in a United shirt because we’re all capable of making mistakes from time to time.
When asked about Rashford’s situation, Berbatov feels that United need to uncover the root cause of their star player’s problems and dip in form – two things that could easily be connected.
“Then comes the next question; why is he acting the way he’s acting? That’s the main question,” Berbatov told Betfair, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “What are the reasons for this behaviour? If someone knows the answer to this then how do you fit it?
“Obviously, I’ll never stop saying Rashford is a big talent, but if he doesn’t correct his way of behaving then he won’t go in the right direction. When someone isn’t famous for disciplinary issues or different antics outside of the football pitch and they start acting like this in an unprofessional way, it’s always surprising.
“You think about a player and then you see a different side to them when they act out of character. What’s the reason for the change? There must be a reason.
“If United don’t find the answer for this then this behaviour will continue,” Berbatov added. “If United find the answer to why he’s behaving like this and help him, then hopefully everything will go back to normal and he’ll continue to play and be more focused and concentrated.
“People will be surprised but based on previous small misbehaviours, you can see something is there. I’ve spoken about his form on the pitch, he’s been late to the team meeting before. So, something is there and until United don’t fix it, I think his behaviour will continue like this.”
Rashford has scored four times so far this season, with his latest coming last time out against Wolves in a 4-3 win.
