Marcus Rashford will be offered counselling if he reaches out for help

Manchester United will offer Marcus Rashford counselling if the England star reaches out for help in the wake of his recent disciplinary issue.

Rashford, 26, has been fined two weeks’ wages of £650,000 and he missed the 4-2 win over Newport County on Sunday after opting to head out to a Belfast nightclub before missing training with a reported ‘illness’.

The situation was resolved following Monday morning’s meeting at Carrington with Erik ten Hag, Rashford and his brother and advisor, Dwayne Maynard. The manager confirmed at his press conference on Wednesday that the issue was an internal matter and it had been solved.

According to the Daily Mail, United are taking the situation very seriously and are committed to supporting Rashford physically and mentally through this dark period.

The report stresses that professional help such as counselling is available to any player, although it is completely up to Rashford to accept it.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Rashford to seek help but away from the off-pitch issues he has experienced this season, he has also been subjected to lots of criticism – and some of it is justified.

United are right to back Rashford, but he must return the favour with performances. Everyone can see he has not been at his best this season and Ten Hag needs to address that quickly.
