Marcus Rashford to be fined two weeks’ wages after visit to the nightclub

Marcus Rashford will reportedly be fined two weeks’ pay by Manchester United for his unauthorized nightclub visit last week.

The attacker was noticeably missing from the team on Sunday night as United defeated Newport County 4-2 in the FA Cup fourth round.

It was claimed in the days leading up to the match in South Wales that the England international had taken a scheduled break and gone to Belfast.

The 26-year-old was allowed to go out on the town on Wednesday night, but he was supposed to come back to training on Friday morning.

That did not occur; according to Rashford, he informed United staff of his illness, which head coach Erik ten Hag then relayed to the media.

Rashford supposedly spent a second night in Belfast on Thursday, contrary to what he had reportedly told United, according to later reports.

When asked about Rashford, ten Hag told the media on Sunday: “So he reported ill, for the rest it’s an internal matter, I deal with it. As I said, it’s an internal matter.

“For you (it raises more questions than answers), but not for me. It’s an internal matter, I will deal with it.”

According to The Sun, in retaliation, United will fine Rashford the equivalent of two weeks’ salary, or around £650,000.

Ten Hag had criticized Rashford for going to a pre-arranged birthday party following the 3-0 loss to Manchester City on October 29. This is the second incidence of this kind in the last few months.

In his last four games across all competitions, Rashford has scored a goal or provided an assist, marking his finest run of form thus far in 2023–24.

Currently, though, it’s uncertain if Rashford will be included in the starting lineup for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Premier League match at Molineux on Thursday.

Interestingly, a timekeeping error saw Rashford sent to the bench for last season’s corresponding fixture on New Years’ Eve. He came from the bench and scored the winning goal in the match.
