United star warned by club legend that he could be snubbed for veteran counterpart in FA Cup tie

Manchester United legend Wes Brown believes Altay Bayindir could be made to wait even longer for his club debut.

The Turkish international was acquired last summer to provide coverage to Andre Onana after the likes of David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar all departed Old Trafford.

Since then, Erik ten Hag’s unwavering faith in Onana has seen him feature in every game so far – including cup competitions, when Bayindir was perhaps expecting to be given the nod.

Onana even delayed his arrival at the Africa Cup of Nations to ensure he could feature against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup and the 2-2 draw to Tottenham Hotspur. Should Cameroon exit the tournament on Tuesday, he’ll return to the United squad in time for Sunday’s fourth-round FA Cup tie versus Newport County.

Brown’s prediction for Exiles clash

If not, Brown has boldly predicted that Bayindir’s veteran counterpart Tom Heaton could be called into action over him. Speaking on MUTV’s The Debate, the former defender said: “I just feel that Tom’s played before, obviously he’s very experienced. I’ve been watching warm-ups ahead of games and I always notice Tom goes in nets first and gets everything done.

“Everyone thinks he won’t play. He’s played matches before, When needed he’s put him in, he’s done fine, there have been no problems, I just feel Tom’s going to play.”
