Ex-PL shot-stopper says goalkeepers will be begging United forward not to shoot after ‘ridiculous’ strike

Former Premier League shot-stopper Ben Foster voiced high praise for Rasmus Hojlund after his scintillating finish in Manchester United’s last outing.

The young Dane was acquired last summer on a £72 million package deal from Atalanta and while he hit the ground running in the Champions League, scoring five times in six group-stage games, he was made to wait 15 games before registering his maiden league goal.

Hojlund opened his account on Boxing Day to seal an emphatic 3-2 comeback win against the rampant Aston Villa at Old Trafford, with all the Reds’ contributions coming in the second half. Absent from the subsequent game through illness, he then added to his tally at his next available opportunity by scoring the opener against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s 2-2 draw.

In just the third minute of the clash, Marcus Rashford struggled to get off his shot and saw the ball drop to Hojlund, who steadied himself and fired his strike into the roof of the net – an unstoppable one for Guglielmo Vicario.

Foster reacts to clinical Hojlund

Reacting to the finish on his Cycling GK podcast, Foster explained: “The goal that he scored, I think it going to be the way that Hojlund is going to maximise his abilities for Manchester United. Get the ball out of his feet and get the shot off.

“When he gets the ball out of his feet and on his left foot, and unleashes one, any goalkeeper in the world is thinking, ‘please don’t shoot’. It was ridiculous.

“That’s how he’s going to do the best for Manchester United. Any opportunity he gets, beat his player, get the ball into space, get the ball out his feet, bang, get the shot off. Simple as that.”
