Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on rumours linking Man United to Karim Benzema

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has expressed his thoughts regarding the Red Devils being linked to a player that Sir Alex Ferguson wished to sign for the club.

This season, Ten Hag has had to deal with injuries to his first team players, and the United manager has found it difficult to manage without crucial players available.

A position that United desperately need to strengthen is the striker position. With only Rasmus Hojlund being utilised in that position, United need an experienced player who can deal with the pressure of playing for such a big club and take the responsibility of scoring goals.

Legendary former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign a striker for the club, and United have reportedly been linked with that same striker now.

Karim Benzema’s future at Saudi Pro League team Al Ittihad is uncertain, and in recent weeks, he has been strongly linked to a move to Old Trafford.

Ferdinand maintained that given United’s history of transfer business, a move for the 36-year-old French striker wouldn’t be out of place.

“That’s just going back to old, what we’ve been doing before,” he said on his VIBE with FIVE show.

“We’ve done it with Cristiano [Ronaldo], we’ve done it with Falcao, we’ve done it with [Edinson] Cavani, we’ve done it with Zlatan [Ibrahimovic].

“Listen, Benzema… how can you say no? How can you say no to that signing?”

Last summer, Benzema made the incredible move from Real Madrid to Al Ittihad, where he was instantly made the captain of the club.

Sir Alex was a big fan of the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, and the United legend had previously failed in his attempts to get Benzema to come to Old Trafford.

Benzema’s tenure with Al Ittihad has been the subject of controversy amid a rift with manager Marcelo Gallardo after the former Real Madrid striker reportedly failed to show up for the club’s pre-season training camp.
