‘Negotiations ongoing’: Romano confirms United ace has given ‘green light’ to La Liga move this month

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United and Granada are in talks over a potential loan deal for Facundo Pellistri.

The winger had the pick of three clubs to spend the remainder of the campaign with; PSV Eindhoven, LA Galaxy and Granada had all established their interest in acquiring his signature, with the player having now given the ‘green light’ to the latter.

Romano claims that ‘negotiations [are] ongoing’ over Pellistri’s future as he looks to secure increased game time elsewhere. Of the senior squad, he would follow Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek and Hannibal Mejbri out the door as temporary January departures.

So far this season, the 22-year-old has made 14 appearances in all competitions, totalling 366 minutes on the pitch. Only three of these outings have come as a starter.

Pellistri is out of favour at Old Trafford

The scintillating form and rise of Alejandro Garnacho, along with Erik ten Hag’s unyielding faith in Antony, means that there are few opportunities for Pellistri to cement a starting role anytime soon. As well as that, Amad Diallo has just returned from injury and given his experience in first-team football – ie. His impressive loan spell with Sunderland last term – he could well rank higher in the manager’s estimations.

It remains to be seen if there will be any sort of buy option or buy-back clause if an agreement is reached.
