Ten Hag keen to reunite with former Ajax protegee who is ‘not 100% satisfied’ at his current club; he’s ‘on the list’

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Matthijs de Ligt’s situation at Bayern Munich, which could result in a summer pursuit of the centre-back.

Erik ten Hag is keen on reuniting with yet another former Ajax protigee and this time, it’s one that captained the side to a Champions League semi-final and a domestic double at just 19 years old.

Already in the Dutch manager’s one-and-a-half-season tenure, he’s acquired Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Andre Onana from the crop of players he coached at his former club.

De Ligt, 24, departed Amsterdam in 2019 for Juventus, where he stayed for three years before signing for Bundesliga giants Bayern, however, reports suggest he is growing disgruntled at his current role in the squad.

De Ligt frustrated with role at Bayern

Florian Plettenberg claims that the Netherlands international is ‘not 100 per cent satisfied’ under Thomas Tuchel as when all defenders are fit, he is not guaranteed a place in the starting 11 each week.

The German club are also pushing to sign Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, meaning De Ligt would face added competition to cement a permanent place on the team sheet. While a January exit from the Allianz is ruled out, he’s ‘on the list’ of United and should Ten Hag still be in the dugout this summer, the Reds could well look to strike up a deal.
