Manchester United identify £103m priority signing this summer

It’s yet unclear how Manchester United will approach this summer’s transfer window but Erik ten Hag will be keen on extending his spending spree as the squad is far from the finished article.

Ten Hag’s group is still riddled with players from previous regimes that are doing more harm than good and if this season has showcased anything, it has been the desperate lack of depth in many areas.

United did move to make long-term signings last summer and it’s reported that United will continue down that path this year, with Portuguese wonderkid Joao Neves touted as a possible target.

That’s according to The Mirror, who say that United have identified the 19-year-old Benfica midfielder as a priority going into this summer.

As per the report, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is determined to improve United in the market and the Reds will look to open negotiations in a move for Neves soon this spring.

It’s highly unlikely that Neves will leave Benfica this month but that could change in six months, with the teenager having a £103m release clause.

United’s neverending midfield troubles continue to haunt the club despite several hundreds of millions being invested in that area.

Ten Hag cannot afford to get next summer’s transfer window wrong, that’s for sure.
