Manchester United ‘want to get rid of’ £58m man who will leave for nothing at the end of the season

Manchester United are keen to sanction the exits of numerous players who have been deemed surplus to requirements.

First out the door this January was forgotten man Donny van de Beek, who left on a temporary deal to German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt for the remainder of the season, after which there is an option for the side to make his deal permanent.

Following the midfielder was Jadon Sancho, as the 23-year-old seeks his first competitive minutes of football since August 26. His feud with Erik ten Hag showed no signs of resolving itself anytime soon, so the player actively pushed for a return to Borussia Dortmund, however, there is no buy option included in his loan terms.

Anthony Martial has reportedly turned down interest from the likes of Marseille, Fenerbache and Saudi Pro League clubs in favour of staying at Old Trafford until the summer. In June, his contract expires, meaning he’s set to leave for nothing after almost nine years as a Red.

With United unwilling to trigger the £58 million forward’s one-year extension, they’re seemingly prepared to just wash their hands of the situation now.

United left frustrated with Martial situation

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras podcast, transfer reporter Dean Jones explained his understanding of the matter.

“Martial’s situation is frustrating at this point,” Jones began. “They want to get rid of him and they’re not expecting any money to come in for him, they would let him go for no money to be honest, even if an agreement could be struck right now they’re not expecting any money back on Martial.”
