Lothar Matthäus slams Borussia Dortmund for signing Man United’s Jadon Sancho

Lothar Matthäus, Bayern Munich and Germany legend, has blasted Borussia Dortmund for bringing Jadon Sancho back to the Bundesliga.

Sancho has flopped at Manchester United since his £73 million move from Borussia Dortmund. The English star was sidelined for his poor form and falling out with the manager.

The deal has not impressed football legend Matthäus, who has mentioned several reasons why Sancho’s transfer to Dortmund is not what the club needs to get back up the table.

According to Ruhr 24, the German icon said:

“At BVB, too much emphasis was placed on offensive players at the expense of defence. That’s where I see the big weak point at Dortmund and the reason for the mediocre Bundesliga first half of the season”.

“Six defensive players for four positions are not enough, especially since Hummels and Süle both cannot play through a season. Jadon Sancho is currently making improvements to the offensive instead of doing something at the back”.

Matthäus wants Sancho to show maturity and has challenged the English youngster to replicate his old form that he showed during his time in Germany before.

“If Sancho achieves the form he had during his time at Dortmund, then he would be a win. But to do that he also has to show that he is more mature than we recently saw in Manchester,” he said.

For the 23-year-old, who is hoping to revive his career and play for the first time since August, the transfer could end up being beneficial.

Despite his prior success in Bundesliga, it is evident that people in Germany do not believe it will be easy going by any means.
