‘A gamble’: Redknapp claims Man United ace is ‘miles away’ from being ‘finished article’

Harry Redknapp has given his fresh verdict on Manchester United frontman Rasmus Hojlund.

The 20-year-old has found himself on the receiving end of criticism from pundits, neutral fans and, at times, even United’s supporters. He’ll have quickly learned the hard way that leading the line for the 20-time champions, especially with a hefty price tag attached to your name, catapults you into one of the most scrutinised positions in world football.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Redknapp declared: “The lad they bought [Hojlund], it was crazy money. And he’s still miles away from being the finished article. What do you get for your money? It’s a gamble.”

Hojlund undoubtedly feels the pressure

Since signing on a £72 million package deal from Atalanta last summer, Hojlund has six goals to his name in his first 24 appearances as a Red. Five of these contributions came in the Champions League, and he was made to wait 15 games before netting his maiden Premier League strike.

United knew when signing the youngster that he wasn’t entirely the finished product – a rough diamond that needed some polishing, if you will. But poor negotiating on the board’s side led to Hojlund’s transfer fee garnering unprecedented media attention, which has heaped pressure on his shoulders from the moment he made his debut.
