Ian Wright claims Man United frontman looks ‘a shadow’ of his former self this season

Ian Wright has voiced his concerns over Marcus Rashford’s currently stagnant form for Manchester United.

The forward entered the 2023/2024 term on the back of his most prolific season to date, having overseen a 30-goal campaign for the first time in his career. His contributions led to him being named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and he was later awarded a lucrative new contract by the board.

Since then, things have taken a turn for the worse for Rashford; at the halfway stage of the season, he has just three goals to his name across 25 appearances in all competitions.

While he retains the trust of Erik ten Hag, the Old Trafford faithful have frequently criticised the Carrington graduate after consecutive blank performances or crucial missed chances, and it remains to be seen if Rashford will be able to revitalise his career from now until the summer.

Wright weighs in

Wright had his say on the matter during ITV’s coverage of United’s FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic, saying (via the Daily Mail): “He just feels like he’s in a place where something needs to happen for him at the club or somebody needs to talk to him because he needs to go to the place where we expect him to be.

“At the moment, he seems to be a shadow of that player.”
