Former Premier League goalkeeper urges Aaron Ramsdale to join Manchester United

Former Premier League goalkeeper turned pundit Mark Schwarzer thinks Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale should join Manchester United in January.

Schwarzer, formerly of Chelsea and Fulham, has suggested Old Trafford as a potential destination for Ramsdale, who was the number one option for Mikel Arteta since making the switch from Sheffield United in a deal worth roughly £30 million.

However, Ramsdale to United is not something I can see happening midway through the season – and unlike Schwarzer, I don’t think he is a better keeper than Andre Onana.

Speaking to Optus Sport, Schwarzer said: “But if he didn’t go to Chelsea, where else is there for Ramsdale? There’s Manchester United, which I think would also be an excellent destination for him.

“He’s far better than Andre Onana in my opinion but probably not in Erik ten Hag’s opinion, as he will most likely stick with his summer signing given how much he’s back him through his early struggles at Old Trafford so far.

“Manchester United could definitely do with Ramsdale but I think their priorities lie elsewhere.”

Ramsdale displaced Bernd Leno and things started to look good for Arsenal, although there were always doubts over whether he was good enough for a team trying to push for Premier League titles.

Then, out of nowhere, it was announced that Arsenal were taking David Raya from Brentford on loan. It is understood that they will sign the Spaniard in the summer after Arteta’s decision to drop Ramsdale to the bench.

This has led to speculation around Ramsdale’s future but I cannot see the 25-year-old moving to Old Trafford this month.
