Manchester United are interested in signing high-flying Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez as Sergio Reguilon’s replacement.

According to The Sun, Man United want to sign a left-back in the January transfer window and Gutierrez from Girona is one of the players they are monitoring.

Sergio Reguilon has returned to Tottenham after the Red Devils finished his loan stay at the Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag now wants a replacement to add depth to his squad and give competition to Luke Shaw at the left-back position.

Real Madrid may make a move of their own for the Spanish left-back, which presents a dilemma for United.

Other clubs like AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in signing the left-back, who could be sold for £22 million.

United can easily afford the transfer fee but competition from Real Madrid may prove to be a stumbling block in completing the deal.

According to The Sun’s report, “the Red Devils highly value Gutierrez because of his high football IQ and attacking profile”.

The Sun has claimed that Real Madrid, who want to win both the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League this season, has a sell-on clause in place and owns 50% of Gutierrez’s rights.

Before signing for Girona in 2022, the 22-year-old was a member of Madrid’s first team squad after coming through the youth system.

In 18 La Liga games for Girona this season, Gutierrez has one goal and one assist.

The left-back played in the league for Girona last season, making 27 starts and seven appearances as a substitute. In those games, he tallied three assists in addition to his two goals.
