Former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna has been tipped to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United should the Dutchman be relieved of his duties.

As it stands, you’d struggle to give a definitive answer from United supporters on whether they expect – or want – Ten Hag to still be in the dugout when the 2023/2024 campaign draws to a close in May.

Heading into the second half of the campaign, United sit eighth-placed in the Premier League table, are out of the Carabao Cup and are out of Europe entirely. They’ve sustained 14 losses thus far, with each now breaking or setting unwanted records.

Ten Hag has spent, as per the Metro, around £407 million on new signings since his tenure began, falling only behind Todd Boehly’s Chelsea for money spent in England’s top division, so fans can’t deny that he has been financially backed. Therefore, it’s not too far out of the realm to question his tenure ending early.

McKenna tipped for United return

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Chris Sutton explained why he believes Ipswich Town boss McKenna could get a job done at Old Trafford.

“At number three, Kieran McKenna. I’m a Norwich fan, but there’s a begrudging admiration for the job he’s done.

“Promoted last season, they’ve been flying this season, but they may be lucky to hang onto him because bigger clubs may be looking and thinking they want a piece of him.”
