Dimitar Berbatov names Bayern Munich ace as ‘perfect’ Casemiro replacement

Casemiro is not getting any younger so it makes total sense for Manchester United to start looking in the market for a combative defensive midfielder. Former striker Dimitar Berbatov has advised Erik ten Hag to start the process of trying to source a replacement for the Brazil international.

The player that Berbatov wants at United is a proven winner – in Germany at least – but it will be a challenge to get him away from Bayern Munich.

Berbatov is eager to see United replace Casemiro with Bayern ace Joshua Kimmich.

The Germany international has a wealth of experience – certainly more than fellow target Joao Neves, 19, who has only recently become an establish star for Benfica.

Berbatov admits trying to lure Kimmich away from Bavaria will be a mighty task.

“Going forward with the takeover, I wonder how brave United will be in the transfer market,” Berbatov told Betfair, as cited by the Manchester Evening News. “Joshua Kimmich is being linked, but he’s such an important player for Bayern Munich.

“Can I see him leaving Bayern and coming to United in the January transfer window? I don’t think that will happen. Maybe we can speak about this transfer in the summer, but he’s someone who is highly regarded at his current club.

“With Casemiro’s injuries and form, maybe United are going to look for a replacement. Let’s not forget about Scott McTominay, he’s there and playing well, but if Casemiro is not going to be counted on to continue to play because of his age and injuries, then of course you need to buy someone to replace him.

“Kimmich is someone who fits perfectly in that position, but does he want to leave Bayern? That’s going to be a tough decision.”

Kimmich enjoyed two wins over United in the group stages of the Champions League earlier this season.
