Bologna chief plays down Zirkzee to Manchester United rumours

Bologna director Marco Di Vaio has dismissed claims that Joshua Zirkzee could be on the verge of signing for Manchester United.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that United are being linked with strikers. There’s only one reliable striker (Rasmus Hojlund) in the squad as things stand and we need better cover than Anthony Martial, who has spent the past month issuing sick notes.

In turn, one player United have been credited with interest in signing is 22-year-old Bolonga striker Zirkzee.

However, Bologna chief Di Vaio has quickly played down the prospect of a move in the near future.

Di Vaio told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “How many phone calls have we received? None. And we wouldn’t answer anyway! Joshua is a nine-and-a-half, yes, but he doesn’t resemble anyone. He’s a unique player. The release clause? It is valid only for Bayern. For the other clubs the price is open… but our top players will not move in January.”

United need to be scanning the market for strikers, but I still think we need two more rather than just one. The squad should have 3-4 strikers at a minimum and it helps if they are versatile like Zirkzee.
