Mark Chapman slams Manchester United stars for reaction to youngster’s mistake vs West Ham

BBC Radio 5 Live’s respected Mark Chapman hit out at the Manchester United players after their latest defeat to West Ham in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s side, who currently sit eight in the Premier League, have already lost 13 games this season and face another challenging battle on Boxing Day at home to Aston Villa.

On Saturday, however, the Reds slumped to a 2-0 loss at the hands of West Ham. Two second half goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus saw David Moyes’ side overtake United in the Premier League table.

Chapman covered the game for BBC Radio 5 Live and slammed the United players while discussing the second goal with pundit Mark Warburton and the way they reacted to teenager Kobbie Mainoo who was at fault for the goal.

In reaction, Chapman said (via Daily Mail): “I’m just watching the TV pictures of the aftermath, and he took it well did Kudus, but the ball was given away by Kobbie Mainoo, and that can happen to a young player, it just rolled under his foot.

“He’s there biting his shirt, knowing that he’s the one who has made the mistake, and the player that goes up to him to give him a little tap and go ‘right, come on’ is Kambwala, the centre half who is 19 and is making his debut.

“Not one of the senior players, the young lad who is making his debut!”

Kambwala, who started in defence alongside the experienced Jonny Evans, was comforting a friend and someone he has come through the ranks at United with, but it’s a valid point made about some of our more experienced players. I noticed before kick-off that Aaron Wan-Bissaka was lending words of encouragement into Kambwala’s ears, though there wasn’t enough of that after Mainoo’s second half error.

It is important to highlight that Mainoo played well other than that, and I don’t think his mistake necessarily needed to cost us a goal because a lot still had to happen for Kudus’ chance to count.
