Manchester United’s Director of Football John Murtough has reportedly taken a trip to Saudi Arabia in hopes of raising funds for Erik ten Hag’s transfer business.

As per an exclusive update from Mail Sport, Murtough specifically discussed a quartet consisting of Jadon Sancho (£73 million), Anthony Martial (£58m), Casemiro (£70m) and Raphael Varane (£41m). Should any of the players leave, United will need to cut their losses significantly when it comes to the fee they receive.

As such, that may explain why the senior figure went to Saudi of all places, as those clubs are the only ones that would be willing to cough up extravagant fees for the out-of-favour Reds.

It remains to be seen whether there’s any truth behind the report, especially since contrasting pieces have come out recently that state Varane and Casemiro are rated highly by Ten Hag regardless of their lack of game-time this term; the Brazilian’s is, of course, due to injury.

Two Reds look set to leave in 2024

Regarding Martial, his contract expires in June 2024, so the January window is the last chance for United to try and recuperate any sort of return for his exit.

Sancho remains the most likely to depart Old Trafford next month due to his ongoing expulsion from the first-team, though a loan has been tipped as the most plausible option mid-season.
