Donny van de Beek will undergo his medical over the next 24 hours ahead of completing his loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The midfielder is set to finally complete the transfer his heart desires – even if it’s just for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.

This season, Van de Beek has featured for a grand total of 21 minutes in all competitions across two separate cameos; one in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup. He’s occasionally been lucky enough to make the substitutes’ bench and watch on from the sidelines but has frequently been omitted from the squad entirely.

His lack of game-time will have likely come as no surprise to supporters as, not only has it been the case since he signed in 2020, but Erik ten Hag had made it clear that Van de Beek wasn’t in his plans last term and across the summer. The player, however, rebuffed interest from clubs in the transfer window and opted to stay at Old Trafford.

Now, after learning the hard way that his situation won’t be changing anytime soon, the Dutch international is ready to test his skills elsewhere with a move to the Bundesliga.

Van de Beek nearing United exit

As per Fabrizio Romano, the loan contract will be signed this week if Van de Beek passes his required medical tests. The terms do include a buy option of €15 (£13m) million (including add-ons), though this is not mandatory, meaning he could return to Old Trafford in June 2024.

Should he sign for Frankfurt permanently, United stand to lose £27m from the deal after paying a £40m package for him three years ago.
