Scott McTominay hails Erik ten Hag after Liverpool draw

Manchester United earned a point on the road this afternoon as Erik ten Hag’s men leave Anfield with a point against all odds, with pre-match predictions strongly leaning in Liverpool’s favour.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are supposedly in a title race but United matched them well on the day and considering more than half of Ten Hag’s first-team regulars were unavailable, it’s a good point to take with you back to Manchester.

With Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount all unavailable, Scott McTominay was deployed as the most advanced midfielder at Anfield and after helping his side to a draw, the Scotland international has praised his manager.

“I said in other interviews we are behind the manager,” McTominay is quoted as saying by BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez.

“First and foremost we are here to perform for the football club, he is a great man manager and this is a building block.”

The result means United are six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City but the Reds will be hoping to close the gap on the Champions League places in the coming weeks.

The circumstances certainly did mean that United were going to have their backs against the wall today but they handled the pressure well, with the defenders, in particular, coming out of the game with their stocks high.

Ten Hag will be delighted to welcome some of his most important players back soon, with Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro among those to be making good progress in their rehab programmes.
