Virgil van Dijk fired a dig towards Andre Onana for his timewasting tactics following Liverpool and Manchester United’s goalless stalemate.
The Red Devils, of course, would’ve been on cloud nine if they left Anfield with all three points today, but after March’s humiliation, they’ll certainly take a draw and a clean sheet.
Erik ten Hag was forced to navigate an injury-plagued squad, which saw Raphael Varane deployed alongside Jonny Evans for the first time – the ninth centre-back partnership that United have rotated through this season.
Andre Onana is one player who has endured a tumultuous start to life at Old Trafford since signing in the summer, but he aided the Reds on their way to becoming the first team to stop Liverpool from scoring this term, making eight saves in the process.
Van Dijk’s dig at Onana
As is any goalkeeper’s job during such a high-stakes contest, Onana knew to take his time with each restart, riling up the home crowd more and more with each second wasted.
Post-match, Van Dijk let his feelings be known on the matter by saying to the Cameroonian in the tunnel (via Alex Crook): “Because of you, we only played a half-hour game.”
Onana, completely unfazed by the comment, simply responded with a smile.
