Graeme Souness thinks one Manchester United player would make Liverpool team

Manchester United are gearing up for the latest edition of the storied rivalry between themselves and Liverpool, with Erik ten Hag getting ready for his second trip to Anfield as United manager.

The first trip there did not go as the Dutchman would have wanted, with the Reds making the trip back to Manchester with their tails between their legs.

Unfortunately, that is how these games have panned out in recent years, with United last scoring a goal at Anfield under Jose Mourinho in 2018 – the Portuguese manager’s final game in charge of the club.

Graeme Souness, a consistent critic of United in years gone, has come out of the woodwork again ahead of the latest meeting and upon comparing the two squads, he admitted that Bruno Fernandes is the only United player who would make it into the the Liverpool squad at the moment.

“Tell me, who would Liverpool take from Man United?” Souness says, as per the Daily Mail.

“Bruno Fernandes, perhaps. I think he would be a star in Liverpool’s team because he has all the qualities you need to be a top player.”

In truth, the two sides go into the game with contrasting forms and seasons. United are continuing to struggle as Ten Hag works to turn things around whilst Jurgen Klopp’s men are sitting top of the Premier League table.

Ironically, Fernandes will not be one of the 11 players representing United on Sunday as the Reds skipper is suspended for the game after he picked up his fifth booking of the season in the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend.

“That is why, from the 22 who line up at kick-off, I’d say the best 11 players will all be in red of the home team,” the former Scotland international added.
