In-form Bundesliga outfit lead race to sign Manchester United’s out-of-favour £40m man

Eintracht Frankfurt have emerged as the leading club in pursuit of Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek.

Van de Beek, along with exiled teammate Jadon Sancho, looks nailed-on to depart Old Trafford in January, whether that be as loans or permanent deals.

The Dutch international was made available in the summer after another season spent sitting watching on from the sidelines – as has been the case since he signed in 2020. However, reports suggested that Van de Beek rebuffed offers from interested clubs in favour of staying put.

Since then, his situation has remained entirely the same, if not worsened; the midfielder has been granted just two cameos so far this season; he featured for two minutes in the Premier League and 19 minutes in the Carabao Cup.

As such, Van de Beek recently publicly expressed his desire for a fresh start elsewhere, claiming that while he makes a ‘good living’ at United, his motive is to play regular matches. Ten Hag then admitted that he agreed with the player’s sentiment, opening the door for him to exit in the winter.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Frankfurt are currently leading the race for Van de Beek, with talks already at an advanced stage with the Reds. La Liga leaders Girona also made an approach but only want to acquire the 26-year-old on loan.
