Manchester United are struggling to put a run of results together for an extended period as they have now lost two out of their last three Premier League games going into next week’s game at Anfield.
Spirits were high after the convincing win against Chelsea earlier this week but the optimism produced from that showing immediately perished with a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth this weekend.
That embarrassing result at Old Trafford meant that United have slipped further behind the chasing pack in the race for a top-four finish.
Gary Neville, the Sky Sports pundit, has become the latest former United player to deliver his verdict on that game, admitting he wasn’t surprised by the defeat.

“It doesn’t surprise anybody, I don’t think,” Neville told Sky Sports. “They’re a real turn-off, aren’t they? In terms of just their inconsistency. They’re down more than up. Chelsea contributed the other night with their performance, they were that bad. Not many people were too comfortable saying it – you just feel like you’re punching United constantly at the moment.
“But even after Chelsea, if Chelsea had anything about them or weren’t as bad as they were, United would’ve been beaten there.
“Obviously, yesterday (against) Bournemouth, I wasn’t at the game but I’ve seen the highlights this morning. Terrible goals to give away – lackadaisical, sort of open. What can you say? There are very few words left that haven’t been said already about Manchester United.”
United will have to pick themselves up from that bruising defeat quickly as they get ready to face Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the space of five days.
