Manchester United star steps up recovery at Carrington

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has returned to the training pitch after not featuring for Manchester United since October.

The Brazilian has been out since suffering an ankle injury a recent international break.

Casemiro is one of the key players United have ruled out for the remainder of the year.

That means tonight’s news will come as a boost for Erik ten Hag, who has suffering with problems in midfield as well as other areas of the pitch.

However, it’s important to remember that Casemiro was not in a great run of form before his injury and I recall sections of the fanbase calling for his place in the team to be questioned.

Manchester United’s official update stressed Casemiro is back training on grass at Carrington, as he steps up his recovery for United so he’s not ready to come back straight away.

Sunday night’s update stated that the defensive midfielder was spotted training individually on the grass at Carrington while his team-mates took in a recovery session.

This comes as welcome news for Ten Hag, who was happy to welcome back Luke Shaw at the weekend, despite losing in embarrassing fashion against Bournemouth.

Speaking after Casemiro’s injury setback in October, Ten Hag said:

“You can’t [be unhappy]. Those are the rules. He is playing for his nation and he is playing for us,” said Ten Hag, as per the Manchester Evening News. “We all understand. Casemiro is a soldier and he is available for every game. He will always give his best for his nation and for Manchester United.”
