Andoni Iraola talks tactics after Bournemouth extend unbeaten streak vs Manchester United

It was a delightful evening for Bournemouth and their manager Andoni Iraola at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Cherries defeated Manchester United 3-0 to claim their first ever win at the Theatre of Dreams. That means Bournemouth are now unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches.

Erik ten Hag talks about United moving in the right direction, but there’s only one manager that could convincingly say that after yesterday’s shocking result.

United were second-best in every department and deserved to lose the game. That explains why Anthony Martial’s substitution was cheered by fans and former players describing the performance as ‘embarrassing’.

Unlike Chelsea on Wednesday night, Iraloa’s side were clinical on the break as they turned a one-goal lead into three mid-way through the second half.

Iraloa talked tactics after the match as he explained his thought process for attacking large spaces on the break due to the amount of players United throw forward in attack.

“They send a lot of players forward so you will get spaces. In this kind of open game when you know there will be chances for both games, we spoke at half-time and needing more goals if we want to win,” said Iraloa, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“When you send so many threats, it’s a matter of numbers, you have situations to attack 2-v-2, 3-v-2, 3-v-3, we were good in these moments. We knew they would make our wingers run backwards, but we knew when we could recover high, our forwards would have space.

“We knew in transitions we would have our chances and we took them.”

Time and time again we find ourselves getting picked apart by teams we should be beating. It really isn’t good enough.
